As grocery receipts increase in cost across Canada, critics have been questioning the sudden push by the Liberal government to try and “stabilize” prices. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday that grocery chain heads would be summoned to Ottawa to share their plans on how to cap food costs and “ideally” start to lower them. Trudeau claimed if things don’t change, the federal government will step in and take action. Liberal MP Han Dong announced on Wednesday night that he had informed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau he would no longer be sitting in the Liberal caucus. The announcement came hours after Global News reported Dong, who is at the centre of Chinese influence allegations, privately advised a senior Chinese diplomat in February 2021 that Beijing should hold off freeing Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, according to two separate national security sources.
