Titans of the Deep - The Fascinating World of Whales | Ocean Documentary Watch 'Ocean Stories' here: 🤍 More than 50 million years ago, the ancestors of the Whales and other Cetaceans returned to the ocean. This might seem like a backward step: how could a mammal breathe, give birth, suckle its young, sleep, and feed underwater? Nonetheless, they succeeded in conquering the depths of the whole planet. To survive, they developed mysterious means of communication and new hunting techniques. Whale song, tail-slapping by Sperm Whales, Dolphins whistling: what are these giants of the deep saying through these enigmatic sounds? How do the Orcas of the Valdes Peninsula learn to beach themselves to catch prey, the only Whales to have mastered this technique? Such behaviors remain fascinating mysteries, and our quest to unravel them takes us from Polynesia to Florida, from Mexico to Argentina. Thanks to recent discoveries, and in the company of François Sarano, oceanographer and former companion of Jacques Cousteau, we discover these giants of the oceans and the secrets to their survival. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary - Nature Channel for free: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentaryNature #Documentary #Whales ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free with the latest camera equipment used by well-known filmmakers working for famous production studios. We were sent this video of a magnificent Humpback whale breaching the surface of the Bay of Fundy last Friday. Sandy Seliga was vacationing from Toronto and had whale watching on her bucket list — we’d say she can safely check that item off after a sighting like this!! Whales are a majestic part of the Bay of Fundy ecosystem. But these brilliant creatures are under stress from tanker traffic in the bay, which is poised to get a lot busier and riskier for whales with TransCanada’s proposed Energy East Pipeline. How Whales Became The Largest Animals Ever

Whales are the largest living animals that have ever existed on this Earth. A blue whale can grow to a whopping 110 feet in length, outweighing even the dinosaurs. But curiously their story begins from rather humble beginnings. Here is the story of how whales became the giants of the sea. - Science Insider tells you all you need to know about science: space, medicine, biotech, physiology, and more. Subscribe to our channel and visit us at: 🤍 Science Insider on Facebook: 🤍 Science Insider on Instagram: 🤍 Business Insider on Twitter: 🤍 Tech Insider on Twitter: 🤍 Following is a transcript of the video: Whales are the largest animals to ever exist on this Earth, outweighing even the dinosaurs. These titans roam the oceans in search of food, but that wasn't always the case. Millions of years ago they used to be land dwellers. Here is how whales ended up becoming the biggest of them all.  Following is a transcript of the video. Whales are the biggest animals of all time. Heavier than elephants, wooly mammoths, and even dinosaurs! But they weren’t always the titans of the sea. Let’s rewind the clock around 50 million years. No, you won’t find any whales here. You have to go ashore. Meet Pakicetus. The very first whale. Life on Earth spent millions of years clawing its way out of the oceans. But whales took all that effort and threw it out the window. From 50 to 40 million years ago they traded in their four legs for flippers. In fact, some whales today still have leftover bones of hind legs! Once submerged, their weight under gravity no longer mattered so they could theoretically grow to enormous proportions. And they did. Today, a blue whale is 10 THOUSAND times more massive than the Pakicetus was. But this transformation wasn’t as gradual as you might think. In fact, over the next 37 million years or so whales grew increasingly diverse but their size remained small. And were only 18 feet long. Making them easy prey for predators, like giant sharks. It wasn’t until around 3 million years ago that an ice age tipped the scales in the whales’ favor. Ocean temperatures and currents shifted sparking concentrated swarms of plankton and plankton-seeking krill. It was an all-you-can-eat buffet for the baleen whales, who grew larger as a result. And the larger they became, the farther they could travel in search of more food to grow even more. You can probably see where this is going. 3 million years later, humpbacks, for example, have one of the longest migrations of any mammal on Earth, traveling over 5,000 miles each year. As a result, modern whales are the largest they’ve ever been in history. Take the biggest of the bunch the blue whale. It weighs more than a Boeing 757. Has a belly button the size of a plate. And its network of blood vessels, if you laid them out in a line, could stretch from Pluto to the sun and back over two and a half times! In fact, the largest blue whales are so huge that scientists think they may have hit a physical limit. When they open their wide mouths to feed they engulf enough water to fill a large living room. So it can take as long as 10 seconds to close them again. Scientists estimate once a whale is 110 feet long it can’t close its mouth fast enough before prey escapes. So it’s possible we’re living amongst the largest animal that will ever exist. Lucky for us, they mostly just eat krill. This was made in large part thanks to Nick Pyenson and the information in his new book, “Spying on Whales.”

Some marine mammals that breathe air and nurse their young, like us, spend a large part of their days in the abyss. Scientists are now discovering that the depths reached by these ocean dwelling giants are far greater than they had ever imagined. Using tags attached to the animals, cameras in the deep ocean trenches and 3D scanning images, this film follows and illustrates a modern scientific revolution. Constructed as a dramatic progression towards the deep sea trenches – from the shallowest to the deepest – live and VFX footage show animals that are extremely rare and highlights the remarkable physiological adaptations that allow them to dive so deep.

MORE INFO / LINKS: Watch without ads or watermarks via Nature Relaxation On-Demand 🤍 🤍 MORE FROM THE CINEMATOGRAPHER PETER ABOUT HUMPBACK WHALES: "Megaptera novaeangliae" is the scientific name of this magnificent creatures. "The Giant Wings of New England“. I think this sounds better and fits them better than the name Humpback Whale. You wonder where this names originated from? The common name humpback whale is derived from the curving of their backs when leaving the surface and diving down into the blue. The Giant Wings of New England refers to their huge flippers which they often stretch out into the sky when resting on the surface. This was first observed and identified around 1750 off the coast of New England. They are the only whale species with such long pectoral fins. This gives them the capability to swim smaller curves and navigate close to the shores in shallow water. Despite the fact, that humans were hunting them almost to their extinction, they are always very friendly towards humans and often even look for interaction. In most countries it is not allowed to swim with them. French Polynesia is one of the few exceptions. Every year the whales leave their feeding grounds in Antarctica to give birth to their offspring in the warm waters around the island of Tahiti. They stay from July till November to raise the new born and relax in the warm tropical waters. It is an unforgettable feeling to be in the water with them. When whale mothers let their young ones explore and play with individuals of a species, which slaughtered them for centuries. Or when a male „singer“ chants right below you and makes your whole body vibrate. In fact it is a life changing experience to be there with them, in their environment, around them when they accept you and almost invite you to dance with them to the music of their own songs." -Peter Schneider, Underwatercam (🤍 MORE AMAZING NATURE RELAXATION FILMS ON YOUTUBE: Flying Over Norway 🤍 🤍 Rainbow Reef Relaxation 2 🤍 🤍 Flying Over Italy 🤍 🤍 Flying Over Oahu 🤍 🤍 Flying Over Scotland 🤍 🤍 Flying Over Kauai 🤍 🤍 Flying Over Indonesia 🤍 🤍 *HEALING CONTENT NOTICE: THIS FILM OFFERS CLINICALLY PROVEN THERAPEUTIC HEALTH BENEFITS FOR BODY & MIND* Watching Nature films has been clinically proven to boost mood and mental focus, while simultaneously treating high anxiety & blood pressure, insomnia, depression, drug addiction, & other health problems - without doctors or pills. Sperm Whales - Titans of the Deep | Free Wildlife Documentary Dedicated scientists, equipped with cutting-edge technology follow the sperm whales as they dive to depths of 1,584 metres. Their efforts are not in vain as amazing new findings are revealed about the lives of these acoustically sensitive creatures. However, these findings pose new questions too. Are the increasing levels of man-made noise, that now pollute the ocean, affecting the whales and forcing them to swim into environments outside their natural habitat, such as the shallow waters of the North Sea?  The number of sperm whales that became stranded in the North Sea increased by 1000% in the 1990s. During this very same period the commercial search for oil in these waters, using seismic sonar technologies, also increased. Could there be a connection between the two? Until now, these two incidents have never been investigated.  Sperm Whales: Titans of the Deep combines pioneering scientific research with the latest in filmmaking technology to draw you into the mysterious world of the sperm whale and to uncover the problems that it and many other animals face today. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary - Nature Channel for free: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentaryNature #Documentary #SpermWhale ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free. Are the sounds and acoustic signals whales make similar to human language? Biologists agree the animals communicate with one another. This film takes a journey into the depths of the oceans to decipher the language of the orcas using AI. Killer whales live in small pods. Within these family groups they communicate with one another using their own sound dialects. With the help of artificial intelligence, scientists are now looking for repeated patterns which would indicate that orcas have a language model. A team of researchers headed by Professor Elmar Noeth and Rachael Cheng from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg spent three years collecting data on the movements and vocalization of various orca pods in the Pacific. Their aim was to investigate a possible connection between the patterns of the killer whales‘ calls and their behavior. Using special microphones, they captured the underwater sounds and behaviors of these marine mammals. Then they tried to determine the whales‘ position and classify their calls. It’s a first step towards solving the mysteries of whale song. Using artificial intelligence to decipher unfamiliar communications systems is not without its difficulties. However, it’s already clear that AI will transform our ideas about highly communicative species in the coming years. #documentary #whales #naturedocumentary ـــــ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Giants of the Seas - The Mystery of the Sperm Whales | Ocean Documentary Watch 'Adventure Ocean Quest: Discovering Another World' here: 🤍 Long massacred by whaling ships, sperm whales were almost driven to extinction. Saved when whale hunting ceased in the 1980s, the largest predators on the planet had, until then, always been studied from the surface, allowing their life beneath the seas to remain a mystery. For the first time, a team of scientific divers has literally become immersed in the day to day life of a clan of cetaceans. Off the coast of Mauritius, over a period of 7 years, they shared the fascinating lives of the clan and tried to unravel the mysteries of their communication using a specifically designed recording device. Witnesses to moments of intimacy that had never before seen, from the exchanges between a mother and her newborn, to the relationship between the latter and its "nurse", they aimed to decipher the secrets of the whales' dialect and those of the complex relationships forged within this astonishing cohesive, matriarchal society. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary - Nature Channel for free: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentaryNature #Documentary #SpermWhales ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free. In the warm Pacific just off the coast of Maui, a hump whale mother has paired and given birth to her baby. Now, the time has come, whereby she has to take her baby on a 5.500-kilometre-long journey to the grazing grounds off Alaska. The animal has already lost 30% of its weight, but she still has to constantly feed her calf. Their destination is in Alaska's south, where the whale mother will hunt herrings with the other humpback whales. Together, they create so-called air nets and surround the herrings: This is known as bubble net feeding. Orcas go fishing here for herrings, too, but also hunt down whale calves. Again and again, prior to each bubble net, one can hear the humpback whales singing. This is drowned out only by the sounds of thousands of seagulls that nest in the cliffs close by. Employing various tricks and much to the consternation of the humpback whales, puffins and northern sea lions attempt to benefit from the prey in the bubble net. In the south of the bay, belugas have arrived at the salmon rivers, in order to hunt salmon. We manage to dive and capture them on camera. In contrast to the humpbacks, they are extremely tame and enjoy con-tact with humans. A unique cat-and-mouse game begins.

Filmed by world-class cinematographer Peter Schneider (🤍 MORE INFO: Edited by David Huting with assistance by Peter Schneider MORE FROM THE CINEMATOGRAPHER PETER ABOUT HUMPBACK WHALES: "Megaptera novaeangliae" is the scientific name of this magnificent creatures.
